Three Ways That You Can Build

The excitement for the Home Building Grants has turned to despair for many out there trying to build their dream home.  The lure of extra cash has become an ongoing saga of stalled progress and increasing costs.  This is because there are only 3 ways that you can build.  You can build fast, you can build cheaply, and you can build with quality.  The catch is … you can only ever have two out of three!

For many people, building fast and cheap would seem to be the best-case scenario for their circumstances; but this will always be at the expense of quality.  Ongoing maintenance costs after handover will also take back all of that time and money that you thought you were saving in the beginning.

This leaves two better options; and you need to work out which one would work best for you.  You can build a quality home fast but it’s not going to be cheap.  You will likely need to pay a premium on all labour and materials to get the best trades at the right time.  The upside is that you will be in your home faster and have fewer maintenance concerns.  The final option is to build cheaper and still maintain the quality.  The trade off in this scenario is time.  This option is great if you are sticking to a budget but you need to factor in ongoing costs such as rent and repayments on your construction loan.

As the owner, ultimately the choice of how your house is built is up to you.
