Challenging Times
It’s all over the news … “Challenging Times for The Building Industry”! And they’re not wrong. The building industry in general is having to deal with numerous challenging factors including the shortage of materials, shortage of skilled labour and now, coming into winter, we will also have inclement weather to deal with. There are a number of causes for this ‘perfect storm’ including COVID regulations and worldwide government stimulus putting a strain on resources. Not only is this putting builders in a difficult position, it also affects you as the client. However, to overcome these challenges and get the best result for all, we need to look at what we can all do to proactively and positively overcome any obstacles.
The Department of Building & Energy in WA has recently released a document titled “Building a home in challenging times” which you can read here. Here are our biggest takeaways from this publication …
- The challenges being faced are a nationwide (if not a worldwide issue) and are primarily outside of the builder’s control
- Builders, Suppliers, Trades and Clients are all doing their best to overcome these challenges
- Communication is key!
- Being patient and approaching any issues with positivity will result in the best outcomes for all
- Knowing how your contract works, or asking questions if you are unsure, will minimize any misunderstandings
