Home is Where the Heart Is
Home is where the heart is and your kitchen is truly the heart of your home. It’s the place where sustenance is offered not only for the body but also for the soul as family and friends gather around to share. To do this, your kitchen needs to be both inviting and purposeful.
Breakfast bars, integrated tables and large open benchtops all act as spaces where others can gather and lean in. Whether it’s debriefing the days events or planning the next adventure, having the ability to come together is essential in making your house a home. As the ‘chef’ this also means that you’re not left alone but can be included in the conversation. As family or a friend, who would want to miss out on the opportunity to carry out some quality assurance ‘taste testing’ before the plate even makes it to the table!
As the heart of the home, we also want our kitchen’s to be visually appealing as well as functional. Kitchen’s give us the opportunity to ramp up the wow factor in an area that can be seen and appreciated by all. Use of colour and configuration is one way to add visual appeal. Think of contrasting overhead and underbench cabinets or open shelving for display. Waterfall ends on your benchtop attract interest by adding a sense of increased dimension and volume. Pendant lighting over the main benchtop is also a great way to draw the eye.
Functional items such as appliances, tapware and sinks can also add to the visual appeal. You can choose to make them a standout feature, such as a farmhouse style sink with a pullout sink mixer. Or, create intrigue by integrating and concealing selected items such as dishwashers or even the access to your scullery.
