Measure Twice

Measure Twice

When designing your new home, it’s easy to focus on aesthetics—beautiful finishes, open-plan layouts, and stylish furnishings. But one of the most overlooked aspects of home planning is ensuring your space is functional by accurately measuring for furniture and movement.

Poor planning can lead to tight, impractical spaces, making it difficult to move freely or fit essential furniture. By getting your measurements right from the start, you can create a home that is both stylish and comfortable.

Some key measurements you need to know include:

  • Master bedroom should ideally be 3.6m x 4.2m to accommodate a king bed, bedside tables, and a dresser.
  • Minor bedroom dimensions work well at 3.0m x 3.0m as this ensures space for a bed, robe, and study desk.
  • The distance from lounge to TV should be at least 2.5m to 3.5m depending on screen size for comfortable viewing.
  • Allow at least 80-100cm between coffee tables, couches & TV cabinets for easy movement.
  • In the kitchen, the gap between benchtops or an island should be at least 1m to 1.2m for efficient use.
  • Your dining table needs 90cm-1m around the table for comfortable chair movement.
  • Ensure passageways are at least 1.0m wide for comfortable flow.
  • Also check the dimensions you need for any free standing appliances you will be having such as fridges and washing machines.

Planning your home with these dimensions in mind ensures your spaces are functional, stylish, and future-proofed.
