New Home Trends
According to the Mirriam-Webster dictionary, ‘trendy’ became a thing in the 1960’s. While society had always seen styles come and go over time, trends started to occur at a faster rate and media exposure made having the ‘latest trend’ the trendy thing to do … just look at the 80’s!
We are not above sharing trends when it comes to designing and building your new home. From the Pantone ‘Colour of the Year’ to the need for house plants, they all form a great resource for ideas. However, when you start to look deeper into these articles, a couple of things become clear. Firstly, they usually cover a broad range of ‘trends’. It seems that everything from basic neutrals to ‘only for the brave’ are all in fashion at the same time. Secondly, as we know from past experience, what goes around comes around as current trends fade into oblivion (and sometimes ridicule … again the 80’s!) before being reimagined into the next ‘must have’.
When it comes down to your new home … we prefer to help ‘you do you’. Your home is likely to be a long term investment that you want to feel comfortable in and have guests feel welcome to visit. This can only be achieved if the design and decor resonate with you personally. One way to do this is to stick to the basics and then use furniture and accessories to create ‘your look’. As time goes on and your style changes, these things can easily be updated to suit. If you’re more about the WOW factor … then by all means GO BIG! This is your home and should reflect who you are.
