Worth The Wait
When you start the journey of building a custom home, the vision is clear. You imagine everything moving seamlessly, one step after the other, until you walk through the front door of a beautifully finished home that perfectly suits your lifestyle.  For the most part, that’s the goal. Builders, designers, trades and suppliers all work hard to keep things flowing smoothly. The reality is, even the best-planned builds can sometimes feel like they’re moving in stops and start; bunching up like a caterpillar as it crawls along.
There are many reasons why this happens, and most of them are outside of anyone’s control. Weather can put work on hold for days or even weeks, especially when heavy rain or storms make sites unsafe or unsuitable for progress. The availability of trades can also play a role; skilled labour is in high demand and sometimes scheduling doesn’t line up perfectly. Add to that the supply chain challenges of materials, where even one delayed shipment can create a ripple effect, and you can see why timelines occasionally shift.
While these pauses can be frustrating, it’s important to remember that they’re part of the natural rhythm of home building. Each stage of construction relies on the successful completion of the one before it; so patience is often the best tool you can bring to the process. What feels like a delay is often simply ensuring the right conditions are in place for the next step to be done properly.
Building a home is one of the biggest investments you’ll ever make, and with that comes the desire for everything to go exactly to plan. Trust that your builder wants the same outcome you do—a finished home that is high-quality and long-lasting. When you keep the bigger picture in mind, those moments where progress feels slow are easier to accept. The caterpillar may bunch up at times, but in the end, it keeps moving forward toward something beautiful.
